Member Benefits
Do you ever question
why you are a member of ASM? Is it really worth $85 a year?
I do, and I come up with a definite yes. Here's
why:
- You get
an excellent trade journal, "Advanced Materials & Processes,"
that tracks industry events and conferences, and has employment
ads and technical articles.
- You gain employment
opportunities, via ASM networking and the ASM resume database.
- Continuing
education opportunities, via ASM-offered courses. One
of the best ways to advance your career is to stay current through
relevant training.
- Your local
chapter of ASM. Most materials-related professional
societies do not have local chapters (SAMPE excepted). Your
local chapter brings you nine monthly dinner meetings a year with
your peers around the Sound, including a holiday program and an
industrial tour. These events are a pleasant way to keep
your finger on the pulse of what's happening in our local materials
community.
- Leadership:
As a member of ASM, you have the chance to develop your leadership
skills, both through local chapter involvement and through involvement
at the national level, if you choose. These skills help
you in your job and your personal life.
- Citizenship:
Feeling unfulfilled in your job? ASM membership gives you
a venue to give something back. You can help organize activities,
teach, work with students and exercise your creativity.
- Professionalism: The connection with 55,000 other members
worldwide, and the access to ASM activities will help you build
your professional reputation and feel a part of a community much
larger than your immediate work group.
